Client Background:
The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) is a regulatory state agency dedicated to establishing and upholding the highest standards in Texas law enforcement through training, education, and regulation. TCOLE’s website serves as a critical platform for law enforcement officers, educators, and the public to access resources, certifications, and regulatory updates.
Project Goals:
1. Redesign the TCOLE website to improve usability, accessibility, and mobile responsiveness, ensuring users can easily find and access essential information.
2. Implement WCAG 2.1 and Section 508 compliance to meet federal and state accessibility standards, providing inclusive access for all users, including those with disabilities.
3. Optimize content organization to streamline access to certification resources, training modules, and legal documents.
4. Integrate search and filtering functionalities tailored for law enforcement professionals to locate specific materials and updates quickly.
Challenges and Solutions:
1. User Experience and Content Structure:
• Challenge: The previous website had a dense information architecture, making it difficult for users to navigate through resources and locate certification and training information.
• Solution: Conducted a comprehensive content audit to reorganize resources, simplifying the layout and enhancing usability. Improved information hierarchy and intuitive navigation menus were developed to provide a more user-friendly experience.
